BREAKFAST AND BED

I have been putting the finishing touches on my new bed for awhile and since my sheets finally came, I am ready to show you the finished product. It is sophisticated but still has a little bit of personality. 


I also included a few pics from a lazy Sunday morning breakfast. Enjoy.

GROWN UP KRISPIES

So it started out innocent enough, I wanted to make a yummy but not too unhealthy treat for desert. Rice crispy squares are a good choice because they dont have much butter in them and they last for awhile. 


So I went about buying the ingredients...I looked on the box and got out all of the ingredients. Then I thought...how can I make these grown-up and even more delicious than the traditional treat. 


Answer: use browned butter and add in some orange zest. Browning the butter gives it this lovely, rich carmel-ey taste and the orange zest is expected but so delicious.  

Orange and Browned Butter Rice Krispies 
(adapted from here)


3 Tbsp of Butter
1 package of small marshmallows 
6 cups of Rice Krispies 
1 Tbsp of Orange Zest
1 Package of chocolate chips (optional) 


1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Continue cooking until butter stops foaming and browned bits form at bottom of pan, stirring often, about 5 minutes.


2. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Add orange zest. Remove from heat.


3. Add RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well coated.

4. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool. 


It is optional (and totally delicious) if you add melted chocolate on top.

DRESS READY

Bridal showers, graduations and other spring events are popping up over the upcoming weeks and months. I prefer to have a few dresses handy that I know will be comfortable and cute at the same time. Also, the shoes need to be versatile enough so I can use them after the event is through. Here are my picks.

LEIF SHOPPING

I recently started following a store out of Brooklyn called Leif. They have the prettiest things. Each piece seems so carefully selected. I bet everyone, no matter what their taste, could find something that they wanted here. I picked out a few of my favorites but I literally could have selected anything on the site. What would you get from here?

Angels in the Bay

While my mom was in San Francisco this past weekend we ventured over to Angel Island. It is a short ferry ride or drive across the Bay. Being there you would never know that a major city was just a short swim (I joke, you wouldn't make it because of the freezing water) away. It also didn't hurt that it was an absolutely stunning day--the kind of day that makes you all-the-more proud you live in California. 

The views from the island were beautiful and the sun was hot (I have a very red nose to prove it)

Ocean View

I'm pretty sure that this settee has made the rounds on the blogs already but I just had to include it on my blog. It falls into the category of its so expensive so I will just have to dream about it on my blog. This would have to be placed in a very special, very simple room where it could be given a place to shine. It is one of those pieces of furniture that is really a piece of art...okay, I'll stop waxing poetic about it and show you the pics. (Oh and its from Anthropologie...of course!)

When I was in Seattle I saw it in person at University Village and it was just a stunning in real life!

Itinerary: Mom Visit

My mom is coming this weekend and I am so excited. As you may or may not have known, I very type A. I like to send out an itinerary to my friends (with links!) before they come visit me. Some people may think that this takes a lot of work but it will help you enjoy the time spent with whoever comes and visits you. I like it because then I dont have the added pressure of figuring out what to do. They know what we are doing and so do I! The key is not being too controlling and letting the schedule be spontaneous sometimes ;-)


This itinerary was created to balance a little bit of classic San Francisco with the things my mom likes to do best, shop and get outside. She's not much of a foodie (my Dad on the other hand...major foodie) so we aren't spending much time going to adventurous food places.

Adorable Artwork

I am always searching for cute artwork. This weekend while reading the new Matchbook Mag (fab by the way) one of the articles on Devon Baer and mentioned CocoDraws. I took a peek on etsy and love love love her illustrations. How adorable are these little prints?

I love them! A grouping would be so fun (and girly!).

Color Inspiration: Spring Vegetables

As I child I always loved when my mom would serve up artichokes. They are such odd creations--spiky points, tough leaves, with just a tiny reward at the end. 


These days I still was just as excited when I saw them in the grocery store. I forgot how beautiful the colors were. It turns out they are perfect inspiration. 

And there are also a few more spring veggies that fit this beautiful spectrum of color. 

Let's see how they fare in interiors...

*Note: Only three images?! In my quest for the perfect green and purple interior inspiration, I came across 99% atrocious images (think long scary neon green and purple nails, horrible purple flower duvet covers and lots and lots of icky, tacky wedding photos) and only 1% teeny weenie percentage good of things. Let this be a lesson that in interiors it is difficult to combine these colors together and do it well. I suggest sticking with a sagey, gray-green and just a pop of purple.

Simple Leather

I've been craving super simple hardware-free leather purses and clutches. There is something ultra cool and unfussy about them.

New Addition: Wall Plants

I have had several people ask me what to put above their bed. Often times people are scared of having something precarious perched over their head while they sleep. 


Living in San Francisco I know all too well about earthquakes and this is an actual legitimate concern. For awhile, I had a large wall-mounted shelf with three frames leaning on it. Then I got rid of the shelf and just hung the frames. I wanted to change things up and add a little modern, green element to it. 


I was all ready to buy one of these beauties. 

That was until I lifted one up and realized that it weighed about 30+ pounds, not only did i want that above my head but I also didn't want a giant hole in my paper-thin, very temperamental walls. 


So I ended up going with these pronged screws called a Thigmotrope Satellite. They are very simple but incredibly smart. You just screw them into the wall and wedge a air plant in. The are so striking and create great shadows. It is actually hard to capture how cool they are (they do look a little scary in the photos) but I love them. (ps you get a little sneak peek of my not-yet-finished bedding)

Color Inspiration: Tangerine and Pale Pink

This weekend I picked up my favorite flowers this weekend, the many-layered ranunculus. The colors are so perfect for spring-- lovely pale pink with bright orangey-red. I'm inspired. 

 These are such beautiful colors together.
