My birthday barely makes it in to being a Leo. Lions have had symbolic meaning dating back to the Egyptians and Greeks. According to my research, in Egypt, the lion represented the Egyptian goddess known as the Eye of Ra who is the power that protects the good and annihilates the wicked. In ancient Greece, lions revolved around protections and they were viewed as guardians of the dead as well as guardians of palaces, doorways, shrines and thrones. They were also ultimate protectors of hearth and home. In Buddhism the Buddha sits upon the lion as a throne of consistency, strength and wisdom. In alchemy, the symbolic meaning of lions is associated with the highly idealistic and prized attributes of gold.

The symbolic meaning of lions in England where it is a common emblem of English sovereigns because of these lion-like traits:
- leadership
- strength
- royalty
- courage
- honor

As a zodiac symbol - those with the sign of Leo likely possess some lion's personality traits such as:
- Intuition
- Self-confidence
- Fiery
- Territorial
- Controlling
- Passionate
- Generosity
- Loyalty

Those born under the sun sign Leo are fiercely independent, confident and in control. They are creative and influential forces and have the internal power to make positive (or negative) changes in their lives and the lives of others around them. They are very loyal people, and will defend friend and family honor to the death.

So now that you know more about the symbolism behind this majestic beast take a look at these regal items...

Let me just say it that Jonathan Adler does British right. With the Olympic fever going around, this is the perfect cure...

Aaaand my all time favorite...

Its my birthday this weekend! In the past I have known to plan extravagant sailing adventures, ladies tea parties and delicious mexican dinners with friends. This year with all of the weddings and visitors, I forgot to plan something (and tons of people are out of town, yay summer birthdays.) Never fear, I have a great day planned with a facial from the Four Seasons which is a new-ish birthday tradition + a lovely dinner with a friend. This year I want to just relax on my birthday and appreciate all of the awesome stuff that happened when I was 25. I can't wait to see what 26 has in store! Here are some of the things on my imaginary wish list!

I am not what you you would call a "heart" person but these modern takes on the saccharine heart shape have me wanting more. I already have collected the locket and sweater!

I recently re-organized my kitchen console. I had these things around but wanted to showcase them a little bit more.

I am searching for a modern piece of art with a little personality. It would go here...

Here are a few possibilities...

In the middle of summer the greens begin to dry out from the landscape and desert-ery browns take over the horizon. The only color comes from the sky, and the occasional oasis.

I love summer because there is an abundance of fresh fruit. Lately I have been stocking up on pastry and filo shells at the grocery store then throwing together a fresh tart. Last night I tried a yummy lemon, honey marscapone with blueberries and cherry.

They also photograph beautifully...

Man o man I have been slacking. I know and I am sorry. As I mentioned last week, this month has been bonkers. This past weekend I was in Seattle for my best friends wedding. It was a beautiful affair at the most scenic of settings. It was the first wedding I have been in and was a total blast. I was so tired when I left Seattle that I fell asleep before the plane even took off. To be honest with you, Im still a little tired which explains the unwashed dishes in the sink and the suitcase full of crumpled clothes in the closet.

I am happy to be back in the Bay and resuming some sort of a "normal" life. This weekend is the Renegade Craft Fair. It is one of my favorite places to stock up on unique jewelry and support local artisans. I took a look at the list of vendors and I can't wait to take a look at these special objects...

If you follow me on Instagram (EllieSf) you will see that on the 4th I did a little creative manicure using the Sally Hansen nail strips. I'm not sure that I would recommend doing all my fingernails with the strips but I really like just doing one. Here is my combination:

But I also like these combos:

I can't decide if poufs are chic or overplayed? I'd like a bright turquoise or metallic pouf myself but are they on their way out?

I am so sorry that I have been MIA. I have had back-to-back crazy weekends. Two weekends ago my cousin was here from Paris, then this past weekend I hosted a 5 girl bachelorette party at my house and on Sunday my sister moved into my apartment for a little bit. It is pretty intense around here.

I promise to come back next week with a full five posts, once I get everything in order! In the meantime I stumbled upon this print and I think it is really inspiring. I might even have to get the iPhone case of it!
